Extrema Ratio New Developments

Over the next few months, North America will have several new knives introduced by Extrema Ratio of Italy. The old standards are still exceptional and should be in everyone's collection. But, we are truly excited for a new line of folders, a new line of tanto fixed blades and other products that are going to be rolled out over the next nine months. As they become available, we will let people know by adding new sections to this blog and telling them where they can find them. We are also excited that knives that have been hard to find will also be made available in the coming weeks. The Doberman has been a knife that many have searched for, but could not find.

Maurizio Castrati (the man in the white coat) has worked hard to develop quality knives that are second to none. He has been honored by many of the European Special Forces for his knife design and dedication to producing true weapons. After meeting with him in Italy, I understood his commitment to producing the best products and making a knife that your life can depend on.

Recently, Tactical Knife has published articles on the RES, the Kukri and the Fulcrum Bayonet. The response for these products has been amazing. The thing is, all of the Extrema Ratio knifes are true works of cutlery art and each has something special about it. This blog will be dedicated to discussions on these knives and any other Extrema Ratio question.

If you have any questions or comments please add them to this entry.

I understand that the Golem is undergoing changes. It is a great fixed blade knife, why does Extrema think it needs to change?

Yes, at the end of this year and the start of 2007, the Golem will be replaced by the Golem II and the Golem II F. There isn't a more menancing knife in the Extrema Ratio collection. This knife was created to let the enemy know that you are serious. The point of this blade is the thickest of all Extrema knives because Maurizio envisions this knife as a tool for the harshest conditions. The Golem II F has the most notable change, in that, the dorsal saw fin on the back of the blade has been tooled to resemble a chain saw blade and will actually cut through wood. This will be a great knife when it comes available in North America. Because of limited production, they are currently only available in Europe.

There will be very few of the original Golems left so they will be destined for collectors items. If you have money saved, look for the original Golems. After this year, they are no longer in produciton.

What is so special about Extrema Ratio knives anyway? I haven't heard a lot about them?

It is hard to tell you what is so special without you actually holding an Extrema Ratio in your hands, but I will do my best. In 1997, Maurzio and Mauro, two long time friends, combined their efforts to create a knife that can handle any punishment, using the best industrial practices with beauty of Italian hand finishes. These procedures have never changed. Everything from the N690 steel that is enriched with chrome, vanadium, molibdene and colbalt, to the handles made of Forprene or ERMC C, Extrema Ratio uses cutting edge technology mixed with Italian craftsmanship to create a knife that can withstand the roughest conditions. Even the sheaths are solid and show great planning. I can say all I want, but you still need to hold one.

There is no compromise in materials, craftmanship or design. Maurizio is an artist of weaponary and his designs and knives will stand the test of time.

I have one of the original Fulcrum Folders. It is one of the toughest knives, I have ever seen. It has taken alot of abuse and it still holds its edge. Great knife! Extrema Ratio rules!!

I haven't been able to find a review on the golem and was having a hard time deciding between the standard and f saw back. Which would you recommend? And what are the strengths and weaknesses of each? Thanks in advance!
